At the time of Jesus’ birth, Sheep farmers were generally seen as having low or little value by other people. Yet Shepherds were the first to hear of Jesus’ birth.
Angels appeared to the shepherds to tell them the Good News and that they should follow the Star to find Him.
The shepherds remind us that Jesus is a King for all people, of all backgrounds.
The appearance of the Angels is only the second time in the whole Bible that a group of angels rather than one angel had appeared to people, emphasizing the importance of their message. The shepherds would have missed seeing the Lord if they had dismissed the angels as figments of their imagination.
Reflection: Lord, thank you for sending Your Son to all people, no matter their station in life. Amen.
