You formed me in my inmost being;
You knit me in my mother’s womb.
Psalms 139:13
The Giving Hands Ministry is a group of knitters and crocheters who use their skills to comfort others. We produce handmade shawls, afghans, booties, chemo caps and other items to give to those in need, as well as items to mark joyous occasions such as marriages and christenings.
In the steady work of our stitching, we find a meditative stillness and calm that bring us closer to God. We have found companionship with each other and a way to comfort our brothers and sisters. Each stitch is offered as a prayer for the intended recipients of our items. We pray that as they wrap themselves with our shawls, spread our blankets on their laps, or celebrate new beginnings with our baby booties, the work of our hands will bring them not only physical warmth and comfort, but also will touch their hearts and souls. We are all connected in this web of love made manifest.
The Giving Hands Ministry is modeled after The Prayer Shawl Ministry, a worldwide ministry that was formed in 1998 by two women while in seminary. Since then, prayer shawl ministries have been formed by hundreds of faith organizations. More about this ministry may be found at www.shawlministry.com
We are looking for Volunteers to create items that are knitted, crocheted or sewn and donations of yarn or material.
