The Future We Choose: Surviving the Climate Crisis
by Christiana Figueres and Tom Rivett-Carnac
Written by the former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and another architect of the 2015 Paris Agreement, this book looks at the realities of the climate crisis. It projects what the world will look like 30 years from now if we do not meet the Paris Agreement targets. On the other hand, it presents a scenario of optimism and hope in what the world could look like if we take action now. We still have time, but not much time, to mitigate the damage. The authors challenge us to act now to create a “regenerative” net-zero emission world that is more just for all humanity and all creation. In so doing, each of us can become a better version of ourselves. The book offers practical steps that we can all follow to increase our awareness, our actions, and our advocacy to confront this crisis. We can view climate change as a challenge or an opportunity. The choice is ours. Which will we choose?
Christiana Figueres was recently the keynote speaker at the conference, “Laudato Si’ and the US Catholic Church,” sponsored by Catholic Climate Covenant and Creighton University.
