The Miryam Ministry at St. James Church began around 1988 as an opportunity for parents, mostly mothers, to meet and share faith while their children were in Religious Education classes. Presently it is a group of women who meet weekly for prayer and study. It is always open to women of all ages – many have been coming for 20+ years! Some come weekly and some are “snow birds” who only come when winter is over. The spirituality of these women who share and pray together is a blessing to all.
We start each meeting with Scripture and Centering Prayer. Often we pray with the day's scripture, before we enter into a 20 minute period of silent, Centering Prayer. We end the formal prayer with offering our intentions before we move on to our current book of study.
To help inspire our discussion/sharing we read from a book, essay or other material. In the past we have used works by Joan Chittister, Joyce Rupp, Richard Rohr, Melannie Svoboda, Thomas Keating, Basil Pennington, Ronald Rolheiser, Pope Francis and many others.
