Thinking about composting, but don’t know where to begin? Join us for a tour of the compost exhibit at the Mercer Meadows Equestrian Center. Compost Coordinator and Master Gardner, Johna Bingham, will discuss the pros and cons of different composting systems. Following the presentation, members of Called to CARE will lead a short nature walk on an adjacent section of the Lawrenceville Trail. Meet at the Mercer Meadows Equestrian Center, 431 Federal City Road, Pennington.
Why compost? Pope Francis reminds us that “the way natural ecosystems work is exemplary: plants synthesize nutrients which feed herbivores; these in turn become food for carnivores, which produce significant quantities of organic waste which give rise to new generations of plants…. We have not yet managed to adopt a circular model of production capable of preserving resources for present and future generations…. A serious consideration of this issue would be one way of counteracting the throwaway culture which affects the entire planet.” (Laudato Si’, 22)
Need an incentive? Called to CARE is offering an incentive of $25 to the first five people who purchase a compost bin. Attendance at the event is not required, but receipts are required. We will accept receipts until June 15, 2024. Watch for details on how to submit receipts.
