Christmas Carols retell the story of Christ’s birth in a way that helps us to remember so many of the details such as the part about the shepherds and the angels and the kings.
People use song as an expression of the highest emotion. When we sing Christmas Carols we are able to share the peace, joy and hope that fill us at the thought of Christ’s Birth.
Song has been part of worship since the beginning of time. Miriam composed and sang a hymn of Thanksgiving when God delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians. David sang and danced before the Ark of the Lord when he was accompanying it back to Jerusalem after having rescued it from the Philistines. He composed the Psalms, all of which are to be sung. People use song as an expression of the highest emotion. How fitting that we sing about the birth of Christ.
Reflection: Lord, whether or not I have a good singing voice or a poor one, help me to make a joyful noise unto the Lord at this holy time of year! Praise You, Lord, for You have been born among us! Amen.
